State Toy Museum

The State Toy Museum is a museum institution with a unique collection of toys from the 30s of the last century to the present. The museum presents the history of industrial toys, Ukrainian folk toys, author's works. Located in Kyiv. Started working on January 1, 2005. The collection of the museum has more than 15 thousand exhibits. It is subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The collection of the museum has been replenished for 70 years, its size has reached 15 thousand exhibits. To the attention of visitors toys that were a favorite for grandfathers and grandmothers of modern children. These are equipment (cars, steam furnace, excavators, airplanes), and table printing (lotto), and dolls, motanki, and folk toys (clay rattles, straw bulls, wooden wheelbarrows). The collection contains exclusive author's works of puppeteers of Soviet times, a unique library of board and printing games, an unusually colorful and joyful collection of Ukrainian folk toys. There are toys of different years: police dolls of the 30s, the first transformers of the 30s, celluloid figurines of the 40s, retro teddy bears of the 50s, non-rollers of the 60s, factory animals of the 60s.In the State Toy Museum there are three permanent exhibitions. The first is “toy story”, the second is “Ukrainian folk toy”. The third exposition is exhibits that are completely different from industrial and folk toys, mainly these are author's works, they are in the museum in a single copy. Every year, on the eve of the New Year, the museum opens an additional exhibition dedicated to Christmas tree decorations and toys. Most of the Christmas tree decorations are of the Soviet era, but there are toys of the middle of the XIX century.The museum collection has about 600 names of dolls. Here are some of the first celluloid papillae. There are also play dolls that depicted different professions, they corresponded to the ideological demands of the Soviet state and were supposed to help the child through the game to get the basics of labor education. The museum also has unique cheese toys (many do not know about the existence of such a toy, and it is still in the everyday life of the inhabitants of Western Ukraine). The dyes in such dolls are natural.In addition to dolls, the museum also has industrial samples of sewing machines (early 20th century), toy irons (from coal to electric), an operating model of a steam engine, the first artificial Christmas tree made of chicken feathers, a large toy railway with the initials of Stalin.There There are several sources of replenishment of the museum collection. This is the holding of contests, as well as gifts from amateur collectors. So, in the collection there is a doll of Academician Bogomoletz, it was presented to the museum by the academician's daughter-in-law. This German-made doll of the early 19th century, in itself is quite rare and expensive.Schedule: Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 to 18:00, Saturday from 10.00 to 17.00, weekends - Sunday, Monday.
