The museum is located in one of the ancient buildings of the architectural ensemble of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra — a former monastic printing house, which operated from the beginning of the 17th century to the 1930s. XX century (more than 300 years). The exposition presents the stages of development of the history of domestic book-writing and book printing from the XIX century to the present — the emergence of writing among the Eastern Slavs, the art of handwritten books of the XVI-XVII centuries, the origin of printing in Europe, the activity of Ukrainian printing houses in the XVI-XVIII centuries. the complex fate of the Ukrainian-language book and the development of printing in the XIX-XX centuries.The collection of the museum is a unique collection of books of Cyrillic and Latin prints, among which there are such gems as the first Ukrainian printed book Apostle 1574. (Lviv, printer Ivan Fedorov), Ostroh Bible 1581, Paterik Pechersky 1661 (printing house of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra), life works of prominent figures of Ukrainian culture — Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Kotlyarevsky, Panteleimon Kulish and others book rarities, as well as the best works of Ukrainian book graphics — works by Vasily Krychevsky, Georgy and Sergey Yakutovych, Vladimir Ivakhnenko, Vladimir Yurchyshyn.In the exposition of the museum there are samples of printing equipment — machines of the XVI-XX centuries. The museum hosts excursions, lectures, festivals, presentations, creative meetings and conferences. There are five exhibition halls, two of which are used for variable artistic, literary, and photo exhibitions.
