Kyiv Literary and Memorial Museum of Maxim Rylsky is a literary and memorial museum dedicated to the Ukrainian poet, translator and public figure Maxim Tadeyovich Rylsky, located in his house in the Kiev area of Holosiiv.Kyiv Literary and Memorial Museum Maxim Rylsky is located in a house on the picturesque slopes of Golosiev, where the last 13 years of Maxim Rylsky's life (1951—1964) were spent, where he created his poetic gems — collections “Roses and Grapes”, “Winter Records”, “Evening Conversations”, etc. Two-storey house with an attic was built according to the project of architect Ariadna Loboda and with the participation of Maxim Tadeevich himself. Here, both during the life of the poet and already in the museum, there were many prominent figures of Ukrainian culture, novice artists, various events were held.
Around the house there is a garden and flower beds planted by Maxim Rylsky. The bust of the poet was installed in front of the house after the opening of the institution. The Maxim Rylsky Museum in Kiev was founded on May 4, 1966. The poet's sons Bohdan and Georgy, as well as colleagues and personal friends of Maxim Rylsky — Academician O. took an active part in its creation. Deitch, poets M. Tikhonov, O. Tvardovsky, M. Isakovsky and the famous opera singer I. Kozlovsky.
The Maxim Rylsky Kyiv Literary and Memorial Museum received its first visitors in the summer of 1968. In total, during its 40-year existence, the institution has received more than 1 million visitors.
The exposition in the museum was changed, adjusted and supplemented three times — during its creation (1968), in 1985, and also during the independence of Ukraine in 2006. In the collection of the Kyiv Literary and Memorial Museum Maxim Rylsky — things that surrounded the artist during his lifetime, a large number of manuscripts, as well as a personal bust the poet's library, including books signed by the authors. The museum, which works in the poet's house, combines both memorial and biographical features. The exposition was located in 8 rooms — museum halls:
First floorThe hall is a memorial, here the setting of the living room of Maxim Rylsky, where he loved to receive his guests, is preserved. The main place is occupied by the piano, on which the poet gladly played and composed. Here you can see some gifts from friends and acquaintances, supporters of Rylsky's creativity, labor and creative teams. In the passage behind the living room there is now a showcase with some personal belongings of Maxim Tadeevich, there is also an exhibition showcase, where objects and documents are placed on the occasion of some special dates from the life, both of Rylsky himself and the state as a whole, of other masters of the Ukrainian artistic word. The situation in the poet's bedroom (2nd room) is preserved.
Maxim Rylsky Library occupies 2 rooms at once — it is vital, and therefore those who wish with curiosity can discover how wide the worldview of the poet and man Rylsky was. So, in addition to large shelves with volumes of classical and modern poets in Ukrainian, Russian, Belarusian, Polish (all in originals), it also presents world poetry, folklore, literary studies and criticism, scientific notes of literary and cultural institutions, as well as literature local lore and hunting (the poet was an avid hunter). There are many books in the poet's library with autographs of the authors.
Second floor
Of particular importance is the office of Maxim Rylsky — its setting is also carefully preserved as possible. Attention is attracted by Maxim Tadeevich's desk, a small library of the poet (Russian and Ukrainian academic libraries of the poet), shelves with encyclopedic and reference literature (M. Rylsky was one of the Ukrainian polyglots and the best translators, so in fact “at hand” he had the best dictionaries of that time, as well as encyclopedias, in particular the Russian-language Velika Sovetskaya and Brockhaus and Efron), a “hunting corner” with hunting weapons and stuffed animals;
The next 3 halls are biographical. The first 2 contain materials — documents and objects that tell about the family, upbringing, education and youth of Maxim Rylsky (1st room), as well as, in the 2nd hall, about the life and creative path of the poet himself (in particular, rare earlier evidence of the poet's arrest in 1931 by the NKVSIs) and in the bookcase individual samples of the huge work of Maxim Rylski-translator. In the third hall there is a large library, donated by the famous critic Academician O.J. Deitch, a personal friend of M. Rylsky has books on which colleagues worked together, and numerous literary, reference, and encyclopedic publications containing information about Maxim Rylsky.
Of particular value, in addition to the personal belongings of Maxim Rylsky, in the museum are manuscripts of his works, correspondence of the poet, works of fine art of the 1940s and 1960s, film and photo documents. In the museum you can also listen to recordings of the poet's voice.
Kyiv Literary and Memorial Museum of Maxim Rylsky is a unique collection of the legacy of Maxim Tadeyovich Rylsky.
