“Museum of the History of the City of Kyiv” was established on November 14, 1978 and opened in the first quarter of 1979 in the “House of Peter I” on Podol (st. Konstantinovskaya, 6/8). The museum collection at that time consisted of archaeological materials transferred by the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, ethnographic and numismatic collections, collections of icons, old prints, postcards, gifts from enterprises, institutions and residents of Kiev. In a short period of time, the museum's funds increased to 36 thousand units.
