The history of the Vinnytsia Regional Museum of Local Lore began at the beginning of the 20th century, when in May 1918 the City Duma decided to create a regional museum in the city, entrusting this matter to the Podolsk Society for the Protection of Historical Monuments.Among the founders of the museum were representatives of the local intelligentsia: artists V.F.Koren S.I. Slobodianyuk-Podolyan, archivist Yu.S. Aleksandrovich, as well as lawyer G.V.Briling, who devoted almost 20 years to the museum. The basis of the collection of the museum were the collections of the Vinnytsia County Land Administration, the Podolsk Society of Agriculture, private collections of the members of the Podolsk Society for the Protection of Historical Monuments. The first exposition was opened in May 1919 in the apartment of the artist V.F.Korenev, which was located on the street. Dvoryanskaya, in the house of Vilynsky (now st. M. Hrushevskogo, 30).
