For the first time, the museum opened its doors to its visitors in September 2007, so its age as a museum is not just small — compared to most museums in our city, we can talk about the existence of this institution as its real “museum childhood”. And to children, as we are used to, and we usually have a special attitude — from whom, if not from them, do we expect mischief or antics? Actually, the creation of a museum dedicated to such a “delicate” topic alone can already be perceived as a kind of prank. However, it is worth noting that museums dedicated to toilet topics have actually existed for a long time in the UK, India, Singapore, South Korea, USA, Germany, Austria, Japan, and even in Russia, since this topic leaves a lot of space for scientific research on history and culture, art and design, medicine hygiene and technology, as well as the history of technology and even — high technology! And everyone who visits the museum will certainly be convinced of this. The exposition of the Museum of the History of the Toilet is represented by two groups of exhibits:the first includes the largest collection of souvenir toilets, pots and toilet bowls in our country, which is not only listed in the “National Register of Records of Ukraine”, and is certified by the Guinness Book of Records as “the largest collection of souvenir toilet bowls in the world; the second group consists of original objects, replicas, mock-ups, paintings, artwork and informative materials illustrating the main stages of the development of everyday culture humanity - from ancient times to the present.During the tour of the museum, the visitor learns an extraordinary lot of historical details, which, often due to the “delicacy” of the topic, were released during school history lessons. In fact: do many of us know how our distant ancestors handled their natural needs? What did the waste places in the settlements of primitive man look and arrange? When did she, a human, first build a toilet? And is it not from the moment of realizing the need to create this object that we can speak for the first time about the appearance of Man as such? Unfortunately, even for historians and archaeologists, this topic is still covered with white spots everywhere. However, we still know something - and we are happy to tell the guests of the museum how insanely popular the first public toilets were among the inhabitants of Ancient Rome, why medieval toilets were called “wardrobes”, or why in the Renaissance ordinary potluck trips turned into real ones. “throne meeting”. History has preserved many interesting facts, customs and even some savory details related to the topic of toilet culture. But first of all, history teaches us lessons that we can learn to move forward, to build a truly highly developed society. And vice versa — if you neglect these lessons, you can find yourself in a place that smells bad — literally. History shows an example of the cyclicity of human development: the destruction of civilizations, the fall of the general cultural level in a particular society inevitably affects the development of the culture of hygiene. A vivid illustration can be an example of modern India, about the problems of sanitation in which even the child knows. However, not everyone guesses that the civilization of the valley of the river. Already two and a half thousand years BC, the Indies presented humanity with toilets, and almost the first sewage system in the history of mankind. This example, unfortunately, is not the only one, so the founders of the museum constantly emphasize: it is the everyday culture of humanity that is the basis without which the development of civilization is simply impossible. Awareness of this truth is more important than ever for our society today. After listening to the tour, guests of the museum will learn how today the problems of access to the toilet are solved in the air, in water or space, they will be able to see the Japanese “toilet miracle” of technology, which will do for its visitor well almost “everything” necessary, including not only a bidet and a hairdryer, but even laboratory tests, and also hear disappointing facts: even in the 21st century, humanity has not yet learned to be grateful to nature, to save its resources, to take care of the cleanliness of the environment. To solve these problems around the world, public organizations, museums are created around the world. institutions, educational activities are carried out. In 2001, the World Toilet Organization (WTO) was established in Singapore to promote and coordinate sanitation decisions, conduct research, study issues related to improving the aesthetics and functionality of toilets, establish new toilet standards in developed countries and countries. developing, exchanging the latest ideas in the field of modern technologies, etc.
