Museum in Kyiv, on Mykhailo Kotsyubinsky Street, house number 9, apartment number 4, where the outstanding Ukrainian composer, pianist, teacher, public figure Viktor Kosenko lived from May 11, 1938 until his death (October 3, 1938).
Opened in 1938 on the advice of the poet Maxim Rylsky as a memorial cabinet-museum of the artist. At the beginning, it was a folk museum. He worked before the war, interrupting his work only for 1941—1944.
The museum was taken care of by the composer's widow, Angelina Vladimirovna Kanep-Kosenko. After the death of Angelina Vladimirovna, the traditions of the museum were preserved by the granddaughter of the composer — Raisa Eduardivna Kanep-Kosenko-Kudrytska.
In 1964, the museum officially received the status of national, and since 2007 - state. In 2009, the museum-apartment of the composer V. S. By the decision of the Kyiv City Council, Kosenko became a branch of the Museum of Theatrical, Musical and Film Art of Ukraine.
On November 23, 2016, a new exposition of the museum was opened after the renovation and restoration work of the room. The museum stores personal belongings, manuscripts, photo archives, epistolary heritage of the composer, editions and grammars of his works.
The exhibition space of the museum is divided into two sections: memorial and biographical (living room and study) and exhibition (third room). In the memorial part of the Museum-Apartment, on the basis of photographs, memories and publications, the interiors of the apartment of the 1930s were recreated, in which V. S. Kosenko and his family. Here are the unique personal belongings of the composer.
The oldest exhibit of the collection is a nominal silver spoon from Kosenko's paternal home.
The museum is equipped with modern audio-visual means, which fully presents the collection of the museum-apartment of V. Kosenko also provides an opportunity for visitors in an interactive form to join the era in which the artist lived and worked, and to get acquainted with his music.
The memorial and biographical components of the new exposition present Viktor Kosenko as an outstanding Ukrainian artist of European level and importance.
