Museum of Fire department

Museum of Fire is a museum in Kyiv dedicated to the development of fire equipment. It opened on January 26, 2004 on the territory of fire department No. 25, which at the time of its opening in the late 1970s was the largest in Europe.

The museum shows the development of fire extinguishing techniques, fire trucks and other means that have been used since the 19th century are presented.

All exhibits of the museum are restored samples of fire equipment. Some of them are unique.

The oldest example of fire equipment are carts, which were used by firefighters in the 19th century. Firefighters with small equipment drove on one, while other carts carried barrels of water, sleeves and hand pumps. Also presented on the wagon is a steam boiler, which drove the pump. Nevertheless, it could work only after 15-20 minutes, after heating the boiler. Therefore, it was used in extinguishing large fires or important objects.

The first fire truck appeared in Kiev in 1913 based on the chassis of the Mercedes car. Presented in photos.

A fire engine based on the ZIS-5 chassis, which appeared in Kiev in 1936, is demonstrated. Also its 1940 modification with an extended cabin to transport all firefighters.

A unique exhibit is the ZIS-150 fire truck for transporting fire hoses. Two such cars were produced. The car carried only fire sleeves (up to 100 pieces). A special mechanism made it possible to quickly expand these sleeves to a length of up to one kilometer.

A car ladder on the GAZ-51 chassis was transferred from Vinnitsa, which can reach 17 meters in height.

The museum also exhibits small exhibits. In particular, various fire extinguishers, helmets of different eras, models of fire equipment.

Visitors to the museum can also visit the training base of the fire department.
