Museum of Hetmancy

In order to truthfully highlight the problems of state-building in Ukraine, to provide an impartial assessment of its prominent figures, to reveal the specific form of government — the Hetmansk region and its administration — on March 11, 1993, by order of the representative of the President of Ukraine in Kyiv, the Museum of Hetmanhood was established. The Museum of Hetmanism is a state culture educational and research institution of historical profile, a center of monuments of material and spiritual culture related to the history and traditions of the Cossace-Hetman era. The museum is contained in the house-monument of architecture of the end XVII - with superstructures in the XIX century, known in Kiev as the “house of Mazepa”. Which was restored through the funding of the Kyiv City State Administration, the Ivan Mazepa Charitable Foundation. An important role in this process was played by representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora, the leading place among which was occupied by the prominent Ukrainian public figure from the USA Mariyan Kots.The main tasks of the Museum are the preservation, acquisition, study and use of monuments of history and culture of Ukraine of the Cossace-Hetman era and to highlight the problems of state formation in Ukraine.With At the time of its foundation, the Museum actively works on the problems posed: numerous historical and thematic, art exhibitions, scientific and practical conferences, discussions, public and artistic events are held. Periodically there are meetings of the discussion club “Hetmanskaya living room”. Scientific exhibitions “Hetman Ivan Mazepa”, “Pylyp Orlyk — Hetman, author of the first democratic constitution of Ukraine” and “Pavel Skoropadsky and the Ukrainian State of 1918” are constantly active. The Museum's funds include more than 9000 museum items.
