Taras Shevchenko Literary and Memorial Museum

August 12, 1925. The Kyiv District Executive Committee gives orders to the municipal administration on the resettlement of residents, repairs and transfer of the house to the Academy of Sciences. Vasily Krychevsky owes not only the issue of restoration itself, but also the artistic direction of the design of the house-museum, the preparation of artistic projects of rooms, workshops and garden.On November 10, 1928, the museum was solemnly opened for visitors.During the years 1928—1941. The museum was replenished with original works of Soviet artists, the exposition changed from time to time. However, in the post-war period the exposition was poor and imperfect.In 1944—1951 the museum was headed by Shevchenko scholar K. P. Doroshenko. In 1946, a bronze bust [16] of the young T. G. Shevchenko (sculptor Galina Lvivna Petrashevich). This happened exactly 100 years after Taras Shevchenko first settled in this house.In 1969—1973, a comprehensive reconstruction of the house was carried out with the task of restoring the appearance of the house from the time of T. Shevchenko. The current exposition fully reveals the topic of the stay of T. Shevchenko in Kiev during his three visits to his homeland, primarily his residence in the house in 1846. Scientists led by the head of the museum O. Shevchenko created an exposition that meets all the requirements of the literary and memorial house-museum. Every year the museum is visited by about 10 thousand people. Its favorable aura allows you to escape from the gray everyday life and plunge into the world of creative inspiration and tranquility.
