National Museum of Decorative Arts of Ukraine

The National Museum of Decorative Arts of Ukraine is one of the largest art museums in Ukraine. Located on the territory of the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve in the premises of the former chambers of the Metropolitan and the adjacent Annunciation Church, which are monuments of architecture of the XVIII - early XX centuries.The founders of the collection were eminent scientists, associates of the museum business: Mykola Bilyashivsky (director of the newly formed museum) and ethnographer scientist Danylo Shcherbakivsky (head of the ethnographic and historical departments). They carried out many expeditions across Ukraine, thanks to which the collection of folk art of the museum has constantly grown. Today, the museum collection consists of more than 78 thousand works of traditional folk and professional decorative art of Ukraine from the 15th century to the present day. These objects are diverse in material, shape, method of decoration and purpose.Rarities of the museum collection are clay tiles of the XV—XVIII centuries, objects of church sewing of the XVIII century, thick glass of the XV—XVIII centuries, products of leading portholes with gold and silver threads. cellophane and faience enterprises of Ukraine of the XVII—XIX centuries. The museum has the largest collection in Ukraine of works by the People's Artist of Ukraine Maria Pryimachenko, which consists of more than 500 fairy-tale and fantasy compositions.
