Chernivtsi
Svitlovodska street, 2
On the picturesque northeastern outskirts of the city of Chernivtsi, near Prut, there is a regional museum of folk architecture and life — a cultural heritage site. The exposition of the museum was opened for viewing in July 1986. The territory of the museum is a picturesque area with a variety of relief, which gives an idea of the landscapes of geographical zones of Bukovina. On the nine hectares of the already built exposition, two rural streets have been recreated, which include five peasant estates, public and economic buildings (church, bell tower, rural administration, inn, forge). They present the Bukovinian settlements of the middle of the XIX — the first half of the XX century. The museum exposition demonstrates the evolution of the housing and life of Bukovyns. Regional features are clearly manifested in the design of buildings, the choice of building materials, construction traditions. They can be traced in the cutting and decoration of clothes, everyday life, the development of crafts, rituals, customs, traditional folklore.
