In the 1950s, the General Staff of the USSR Ministry of Defense proposed the construction of a monument that would perpetuate the feat of the Soviet troops during the storming of the Dnieper and the creation of the Bukryn bridgehead. In June 1960, a meeting of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and the party leadership of the republic was devoted to this issue. On August 13, 1974, the government of the USSR considered the issue of the construction of the “Monument in honor of the exploits of Soviet soldiers in the battles during the Dnieper advance and on Bukrinsky Square in vain” with the relevant resolution [1]. It was decided to build an architectural and memorial complex on the outskirts of the village of Baliko-Shchuchinka, in the area of altitude 195,7. Memorial plaque with the names of those killed during the fighting on the Bukryn Platsdarm (p. Baliko-Shchuchynka) The design of the complex was entrusted to the sculptor, People's Artist of the USSR V. AND. Znobi (1929—2006), architects — Honored Architect of the RSFSR Yu. P. Platonov, S. A. Zakharova, V. O. Kornev [2]. The military consultant was Colonel V. IN. Bilodid. Work on the creation of sculptures lasted 13 years. It includes the Museum-Memorial Complex “Bukrinsky Platsdarm”. According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated May 14, 2008, this museum was granted national status [3]. The memorial is located in the village of Baliko-Shchuchinka, Kagarlyk district, Kyiv region. The hill on which the memorial is built is part of the remains of the ancient Russian settlement of Chuchin XI—XIII centuries., explored in 1961—1965 by an archaeological expedition of the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR under the leadership of V. Y. Dovzhenko. Separately in the premises of the school in Baliko-Shchuchynka there is a small museum dedicated to the Bukryn Platsdarm.The complex consists of an ensemble of monuments. On the side of the main entrance to the memorial there is a sculptural composition “Attack”, which depicts three Soviet soldiers (the height of the monument is 5.2 m). Part of the ensemble is decorated with left and right reliefs (height 3 m.) and the scheme of hostilities on the Bukryn Platsdarm. The dominant of the memorial complex is the sculpture of a warrior with a flag, which is installed on a high pedestal (total height 33 m.) The complex also contains a mass grave of Soviet soldiers, in which more than 3 thousand people are buried. The names of the dead (those whose last names were established) are engraved on memorial plates, stylized as towels, which used to enclose icons, portraits of Taras Shevchenko and photos with relatives in the villages.
