Kanev Museum of Folk Decorative Art

Museum in Kanev is one of the largest museums of folk and decorative art in Ukraine. His funds are represented by objects of everyday life and folk art of three central regions: Kyiv, Poltava and Cherkasy.
The museum is located in the center of the old part of Kanev, next to the Assumption Cathedral. It was opened in 1972 and for a long time received visitors to the temple. 28 years later, the museum moved to the former basilica school, in which it is still located today. It is noteworthy that the value is represented not only by its rich collections, but also by the two-storey stone building, which is a monument of architecture of the 18th century.

The museum's collections include five thousand different exhibits. Almost all types of folk art of Central Ukraine are collected here: clothes, embroidery, carpets, decorative painting, objects made of porcelain, ceramics and glass, as well as wood carvings. Real pride are products from ceramics (period of Trypillian culture) and household items (period of Kievan Rus).

The exposition of the museum fully reveals the generosity and richness of the soul of the Ukrainian people. It houses an enviable collection of earthenware, because Kaniv has been considered the pottery capital since ancient times. Local masters passed on their knowledge and traditions from parents to children.
