The museum was founded in 1993, the exposition of which is devoted to the history and culture of the city and the region, part of the exposition is devoted to the construction of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the city of Pripyat, the accident at the station and the elimination of its consequences.
One of the halls is dedicated to the Chernobyl NPP. It shows documents, photos of the station, stands dedicated to the elimination of the consequences of the accident, as well as a layout of the industrial site of the station with the object “" Shelter "”. Other halls tell about the city of Slavutych, its construction and development. There is also an ethnographic hall in the museum, in which the results of the local studies of scientists of the institution are demonstrated.
In the local history museum of the city of Slavutych and the Chernobyl NPP, a room was opened where you can see the things that the inhabitants of Pripyat used before the accident.
Mineral water “Chernobyl” was preserved, the date of filling — April 16, 1986.
