Museum “Taras Shevchenko Wing” is one of the 7 departments of the Yagotyn State Historical Museum. At one time, the wing was part of the estate of Prince Nikolai Repnin — it was used as a hotel for his guests. It was here that Taras Shevchenko stayed during his stay in Yagotyn in 1843, then in 1845 and 1859. Here he wrote, painted. In particular, his hand painted the walls of the wing (the paintings, unfortunately, have survived only in the photo). Shevchenko's stay in Yagotyn is written in the letters of Princess Barbara. In 1843, T. Shevchenko arrived at the princely estate, where he created a copy of the portrait of Prince M. G. Repnin of the work of Josef Gornung. In the annex, he wrote the poem “Trizna” in Russian and dedicated the work to Varvara Repnina. Sincerity in the relationship between Shevchenko and Repnina grew for the princess from friendship to love. In Barbara's letter we read: “I am blindly attached to him, that if I had seen love from him, I might have led him away with passion.” During Shevchenko's stay in Yagotyn, the local intelligentsia gathered to listen to the works of Kobzar. The outbuilding, which survived the years of the Bolshevik revolution, suffered significant destruction during the Second World War. The former director of the Yagotinsky State Historical Museum Alexander Neporozhny was engaged in the reconstruction of the wing. His idea was realized after his death — in September 2003, the monument was revived, which was popularly called the Shevchenko wing. Today, in the thematic halls of the museum, in particular, works by contemporary artists of Ukraine, who tell about Kobzar's stay in Yagotyn, are exhibited:in the hall “Living Room”. In the center of the hall there is a portrait of a young Kobzar. In the hall “Cabinet” there is a unique painting by an unknown Italian artist “Blind man with a boy”, which belonged to the collection of princes Repnin, a table at which Shevchenko worked, an armchair; in the hall “Opivalnya” — things from the Repnin estate: metal armchair, chest of drawers, chandelier, candlestick “Guest Hall” organize exhibitions of works by local artists: G. F. Yavorskogo, E. S. Tovstukhy, I. A. Kulik, the family of the Empty, the Biryukov family. The museum has 102 exhibits.
