Specialized museum dedicated to the development of the university in Lviv. It was founded in 1964.
The University Museum in Lviv began with a collection of rector portraits in the Senate meeting room. The idea of creating a modern university arose in 1961 on the occasion of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of this institution. The foundations of the museum were laid in the 1960s. At the university, a search group of highly qualified scientists was created, and the museum was allocated space for a repository and exposition. And the museum itself opened on November 4, 1964. By Resolution of the Commission of the Ministry of Culture dated September 25, 1978. The Museum of the History of the University has been given the status of “People's Museum”.
The exposition of the museum is divided into several sections, namely:
• Prerequisites for the foundation of the University (kin. XVI — Sir. HUII st.) ;
• Lviv Academy in the time of the People's Republic (1661—1773);
• Austrian period of the history of the University (1784—1918);
• University between the World Wars (1918—1939);
• Soviet University (1939—1990);
• Modern development of the University.
The exposition of the museum is devoted to the past and present state of development of Lviv University, the oldest continuously operating higher educational institution in Ukraine. Among the exhibits of the museum are diplomas of graduates from the times of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Polish state and the USSR, documents and personal belongings of prominent people, manuscripts and publications of scientific works, awards of honored figures of education, science and culture, artistic and sports teams, works of animals paintings, sculptures, photographs, scientific instruments and other subjects related to the history of the University in Lviv.
