On January 22, 1985, the Executive Committee of the Novokakhov City Council decided to create a Museum of the History of the City on a public basis. On June 6, 1990, the museum opened its doors to visitors.

The museum has 5 halls, more than 4 thousand exhibits.

In the first hall there are materials of the historical past of the Tavrian region, the Lower Podolia (the times of the Scythians, the Cossack era, the period of the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars). Unique are the exhibits: a mammoth tooth (found during the construction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant), grain grinders, ritual pots, household items of the Scythian-Sarmatian era, clay Cossack cradles, spear tips, as well as witnesses of the stormy events at Kakhovsky and Nikopol Plaža Tsdarmes. Part of the exposition is devoted to the village of Key, on the site of which New Kakhovka was built; economic development of the Oleshkov Sands; development of viticulture and winemaking.

The second hall stores materials from the period of construction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant, the North-Crimean Canal and the construction of our city. Unique photographic materials, exhibits, archival documents, films testify to the great labor feat of the first builders.

On the second floor there are three halls, which collect materials on the development of industry; the agrarian complex; the history of construction, transport, trade enterprises of the city; the development of culture, medicine, education, sports; friendly relations with related cities.

The Gallery of Glory presents photographs of 80 famous, honored compatriots, Honorary Citizens of Nova Kakhovka. A separate exposition is dedicated to O. Dovzhenko, in whose creative biography Nova Kakhovka occupies a prominent place.

The museum conducts active local history, search and educational work. It is visited annually by more than 5 thousand Novokakhovka residents and guests of the city.

Museum employees strive to preserve and popularize the spiritual, historical and cultural treasures of their region, apply a variety of forms and methods of work: thematic excursions; meetings with outstanding compatriots and veterans, internationalist warriors, participants in the elimination of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant; separation days doors, exhibitions, themed evenings; prepare meaningful radio programs for anniversary and memorable dates.

In 2010, the museum of the city of Nova Kakhovka turned 20 years old.
