Museum-Reserve “Zolochiv Castle”

Zolochiv Castle was built in the first half of the 17th century. The castle represents the Neo-Dutch type of defensive structures and belongs to the monuments of the type “" palazzo in fortezzo "”, that is, it combines the functions of defense and housing. The defensive structures of the Zolochiv Castle are ramparts, bastions, a gateway tower, a bridge and ravelin. Since its foundation, ramparts, bastions, partially the gate building have been preserved, and the ravelin and the bridge are reconstruction.

The castle of Yakub Sobieski was built according to the project of an unknown architect. In 1686, by order of King Jan III Sobieski, it was restored and decorated with works of art. Little remained of the rich inheritance in 1801 — only small lands with a castle. Since then, the owners changed several times until the castle became the property of the state. Only the China Palace, a large residential palace and a significantly rebuilt gate tower at the end of the 19th century have survived in the castle courtyard.

The Chinese Palace in Zolochiv Castle was built at the end of the 17th century. Initially, it was the so-called gallery - a rotunda with eight columns on the side of the main facade and a balcony around. On the second floor, the entrance was through a bridge from a shaft. In the 18th century, side extensions were completed and the building was called the Chinese Palace. The reliefs above the doors and windows of the second floor of the rotunda are preserved. It was possible to recreate the internal development. The Museum of Oriental Cultures was opened in the restored Chinese Palace of Zolochiv Castle on May 21, 2004. In the central two-story part of the Chinese Palace - the rotunda - the interior part and the tea room.

One of the most interesting exhibits in Zolochiv Castle are stones with encrypted inscriptions. Inscriptions dated late XIV - early. XV century, have no analogues, have not yet been read. The stones were brought from the outskirts of Zolochev - the village of Novosilki.
