Museum of Zhydachiv Land, part of the Museum-Reserve of the Hetman of Ukraine Ivan Vygovskyi, Lviv National Gallery of Arts named after B.G. Voznitsky opened in 2013 in the premises of a former school.
The museum presents the most important events of the historical and cultural life of Zhydachev — the chronicler Udech, the first written mention of which dates back to 1164. The exposition covers the period from the appearance of the first settlements on the territory of Udecha (20—15 thousand BC) to our time.
The first hall exhibits archaeological finds discovered during research on the territory of the former Zhidachiv Castle (XI — XIV century), the mountains “Bazeevka” and “Castle Hill” (XIV — XVI centuries). Among them: a unique monument of sculpture of the VI — VII centuries — Polovetsky idol, found on the territory of the village. Kniselo, fragments of Cossack weapons, tools, products made of iron, copper, stone, etc.
In the second and third halls of the museum, the history of the Zhydachiv region of the XII — XVI centuries is recreated. The main means of reconstruction of the historical and cultural life of this period are painting, mock-ups of Cossack weapons, models of ancient castles, diagrammatic schemes, copies of rare works of sacred art, in particular icons of XV — XVI centuries. Incarnation of the Blessed Virgin, known as the “Zhidachiv Orange”. There is also a copy of the painting by Arthur Orlonov “The Battle of Grunwald”, in which the regiment of the Principality of Zhydachiv took part in 1410.
In the following exhibition halls, the life and activities of famous historical figures associated with the Zhydachiv region are widely represented. Among them are portraits and copies of portraits of the Danilovich family, Zhevsky, Khodorovsky, Vygovsky and other Cossack hetmans.
A lot of places in the exposition of the museum are occupied by works of fine art of contemporary artists of Zhydachiv, Khodoriv and Striyshchyna. In one of the largest halls, paintings and sculptures of famous Ukrainian artists of the twentieth century are widely represented. A permanent exhibition “Folk embroidery of the Zhydachiv region” has been created, demonstrating the best samples of folk art of the 30-50s. XX century
