Art Gallery named after. A.S.Gavdzinsky was founded on November 4, 1967 as the art department of the Kherson Museum of Local Lore.

Since 1978, the art gallery is a department of the Kherson Regional Art Museum named after. O.O.Shovkunenko. March 21, 2002 on the basis of the property of the Novokakhov department of the Kherson Regional Art Museum named after him. O.O. Shovkunenko created the Novokakhov City Art Gallery (as an independent museum institution).

In February 2003, the gallery was named after Albin Stanislavovich Gavdzynski, Honored Artist of Ukraine and Honorary Citizen of Nova Kakhovka.

The art gallery has its own art funds: works of painting, graphics, sculptures, decorative and applied arts of the Soviet and modern period; photographs (total 1039 exhibits).

In the art funds of the gallery there is a collection of 297 exhibits of paintings and graphics by A.S.Gavdzinsky, 237 of which he donated to the city in 1961; a collection of etchings by the People's Artist of Ukraine V.F.Myronenko, a collection of illustrations by the People's Artist of Ukraine V.G.Litvinenko.

The works were transferred to the gallery funds by the Directorate of Art Exhibitions, the All-Union Production and Art Plant, and the Kyiv Museum of Ukrainian Art. The funds are replenished with works of artists whose exhibitions are held in the gallery.The art gallery constantly hosts exhibitions of works from the gallery funds, mobile exhibitions, personal exhibitions of artists and masters of decorative and applied arts of Kherson region and other regions of Ukraine, exhibitions of self-made artists, exhibitions of children's creative meetings and creative evenings are also held.
