Sumy Regional Art Museum named after. Nikanor Onatsky was founded in 1920 by artist and public figure Nikanor Kharitonovich Onatsky (1875—1937) as Sumy District Art and History Museum. This is a real treasure trove of domestic and foreign fine and decorative arts of the XVI — XXI centuries, which is based on the art collection of the famous Kiev industrialist and philanthropist Oscar Hansen. Unique works of art are now exhibited in a two-story building, which is a memory architecture of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries (project of architect Gustav Scholz). On the ground floor there is an exposition of fine art of Ukraine and Russia XVIII — beginning. XX century, as well as Western European countries: Italy (XVI — ca. XIX century), the Netherlands and Flanders (XVII — XIX centuries), France (XVII — early. XX century). On the second floor there is a permanent exhibition of decorative and applied art, which includes the best world samples of the XVII - early XX centuries. in the following sections: art of Ukraine, Russia, Western Europe, Far and Middle East.Kuinji, Aivazovsky, Repin and many other great masters are presented here.
