Sumy Regional Museum of Local Lore

Regional Museum of Local Lore in the city of Sumy, the largest collection of materials and documents on the history, ethnography, nature and archeology of Sumy region. The museum building is a former house of the land (land administration). Built at the end of the 19th century according to the project of architect Karl Gustavovich Scholz. Sumy Regional Museum of Local Lore was founded in 1920 as an art and historical museum. The founder and first director of the museum institution was the Ukrainian artist, poet and public figure N. Onatsky. In 1939, materials of archaeological, ethnographic and natural history collections for the newly created museum of local lore were separated from the structure of the art and history museum, while the art collection remained in the Sumy Art Museum.Since 1972, the museum institution has been housed in one of the most beautiful buildings of the city — in the premises of the former land administration (monument of history and architecture of the XIX century).
