“The Fastiv State Museum of Local Lore is located in a building that is a historical and architectural monument of the late 19th century. In 1995 and 2003 its reconstruction was carried out.
The museum was founded on September 17, 1990 and is a research and cultural and educational institution, the main treasury of monuments of nature, material and spiritual culture related to the history and present of the Fastiv region.
The institution has permanent exhibitions and temporary exhibitions.
The museum has long become not only a place where history is stored and studied, but also a center of cultural and social life of the city, a center of scientific and methodical work, educational and publishing activities in Fastiv region. Personal art exhibitions, literary evenings, music halls with concerts of classical, spiritual and folk music are held here, and citywide celebrations take place.
In accordance with the school program, events are held with schoolchildren of the city and district, pupils of preschool and out-of-school children's institutions; special excursions, lessons at the stands of the museum, events of the cycle “Leave the baby for an hour”, “Fair of folk customs”, “Museum meetings” are being developed, and science is held studies of the history of the region in order to participate in the competition held by the Small Academy of Sciences.
The museum cooperates with scientists of the Institutes of History, Archaeology, Art Studies, Folklore Studies and Ethnology named after him. M. Rylsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Kyiv National University named after VOL. Shevchenko, Kyiv Regional Center for the Protection of Monuments of History, Archaeology and Art, leading museums of the city. Kyiv and Kyiv region. Joint scientific and practical conferences, discussion clubs, round tables are held.
The museum is included in the tourist routes of Kyiv region. Excursions are developed and run: “Historical and cultural trails of the native land”, “Places of Cossack glory”, “Shevchenko in the Fastivshchyna”, “Visiting the singer I. Kozlovskogo (s. Marianivka Vasylkivskyi district) and composer K. Stetsenka (s. Veprik of the Fastiv district)”.
Every year, exhibitions and events of the museum are visited by more than 6,000 people and visitors of our city.
Since 1993, the periodical scientific and information edition “Press-museum” (43 issues) has been published.
The museum staff was awarded the medal “10 years of Independence of Ukraine” (2001), diplomas of the literary and artistic prize of the Fastiv region named after him. IN. Kosovskogo (2003), Laureate of the 1st All-Ukrainian Museum Festival “Museum of the Third Millennium”. Recognized as the winner of the competition of museum and advertising publications in the nomination “Educational Publications” for the best museum guide (2005, m. Dnipropetrovsk).
The funds of the Fastiv State Museum of Local Lore number about 50 thousand objects, and they can be conditionally divided into 2 main groups — historical, local lore and natural history.
The archaeological collection of the Fastiv Museum of Local Lore was started thanks to the work of the archaeological expedition of the Ukrainian State Pedagogical University named after him. M. Dragomanov under the guidance of the famous archaeologist Nadezhda Kravchenko. Currently, the head of the archaeological expedition of the museum is its leading researcher, Candidate of Historical Sciences Sergey Lysenko.
Among the materials of the historical department of the museum there are rare archival and photographic materials, objects of that time that tell about the topics of the historical development of the city “forbidden” under the USSR at the beginning of the 20th century — in particular, about the stay in the Fast Directorate of the UNR, about the battle near Motovlivka, about the merger of the UNR and the ZUNR, etc. Also collected is a significant photo-documentary material about the mass peasant uprising movement in the region of the civil war period, the development of education, the presence of prominent figures of Ukrainian science and culture in the Fastiv region, the mutual influence of Ukrainian, Polish, Russian cultures on the Fastiv land.
The Fastiv Museum of Local Lore regularly holds conferences, round tables, lectures for schoolchildren and student youth, seminars, has its own printed edition — scientific newsletter. It is the holding on the basis of the institution of scientific, practical and local history conferences, seminars, “round tables”, discussion clubs, archaeological “workshops”, etc., that is a distinctive feature of the activity of the Fastiv State Museum of Local Lore. Among the most notable of these events, held in the period 1996-2005: “Semyon Paliy and Fastivshchyna in the History of Ukraine” (1996), “Ethnocultural Processes in the Middle Dnieper. According to the materials of archaeological researches”, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the complex of archaeological monuments between the villages of Malopolovetsk-Yakhny (2001), “Ideas of social teaching of Pope John Paul II in his works and activities” (2001), “Dombrovsky Church in Fastiv — 100 years” (2003), “Fastiv region and the problems of the Middle Dnieper” (2005).”
