Kamianets-Podilskiy
Pyatnytska St, 11
“Noble halls, the city theater, the Orthodox seminary, the men's spiritual school, the Museum of the Podolsk Historical and Archaeological Society, the art gallery — this is an incomplete list of what was located in the building on the east side of the Armenian Market Square.
The art gallery of the art department of the Kamianets-Podolsk State Historical Museum-Reserve is located in the former educational building of the Theological Seminary (18th century). Mikhail Dostoevsky, Stepan Rudansky, Nikolai Leontovich, Anatoly Svidnitsky and others studied in the Orthodox seminary of Kamianets-Podilskyi and others. The museum exposition presents works of painting, graphics and sculptures of the XVII-XX centuries, as well as a collection of icons of various religious denominations. In 2008, a room-museum of Godovants was opened. Thematic exhibitions are held.
The construction of the building, which currently houses the Art Gallery, began in 1789-90 on the cemetery of St. John the Baptist Church, which in the 30s was destroyed by order of the Soviet authorities. The house was intended for a Greek Catholic chapter and seminary. However, in 1793, after the second partition of Poland, Right-bank Ukraine, which included the Podolsk Territory, was united with Left-bank Ukraine as part of Russia. Kamianets-Podolsky becomes the provincial center and the premises are used for gatherings of the Podolian nobility (10 rooms were converted into one large hall). Subsequently, another place was found for the noble meeting, and in 1798 the house was transferred to Anton Zmievsky for a three-year lease under his own theater, on the stage of which plays in Ukrainian and Polish were staged.
In 1805 (as a result of disputes between the city and spiritual authorities over the right of ownership), the educational building of the Orthodox seminary was opened in the house, which operated here until 1865. Then, when new houses were built for the seminary on the New Plan, a men's spiritual college moved here from the county. The famous poet-democrat Stepan Rudansky studied in the seminary. Under the influence of the work of T. G. Shevchenko he writes here the first ballads “" Evening "”, “" Variety "”, “" Willow "”, “" Upyr "”. Ukrainian writer Anatoly Svidnitsky left his memories of studying at the seminary.
Already in 1915, the house housed the Museum of the Historical and Archaeological Society.
In 1928-32. here was the Palace of Pioneers, and after the Second World War the weaving factory “Red Weaver” was located.
From 1976 to 1982 pp. Kamenets restorers were engaged in the restoration of the architectural monument, and it appeared in its original form. In February 1982, the first art gallery in the Khmelnytsky region, the art department of the Kamianets-Podolsk Historical Museum-Reserve was opened in the premises. In its halls there are more than three hundred works of painting, graphics, sculpture.
