Memorial Museum-Workshop of Theodosia Bryzh

Along with retrospectives of Western European and Ukrainian art in Potocki Palace, Lozynsky Palace and Museum of Modernism, in the center of Lviv, on L. Martovych, 5, invites visitors to the museum of one artist — Theodosia Bryzh (1929—1999), since 2000 — the museum division of the Lviv National Gallery of Arts named after B.G. Voznitsky.

Graduate of Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts (1954; now — LNAM), student of Ivan Severy and Leopold Levytsky, Honored Artist of Ukraine (1997), T. Bryzh absorbed classical traditions, the heritage of the world avant-garde and Ukrainian modernism and developed its own artistic language, in which form is the emanation of the idea, philosophical thoughts and feelings.

In the workshop, where since 1954. VOL. Breeze has worked for more than four decades, presenting the whole range of her creative pursuits: from historical portraits to images of contemporaries, images of literary heroes, symbolic and metaphorical compositions, in total — more than a hundred works.

Thus, monumental and epic historical portraits — Yaroslav the Wise, Anna Yaroslavna, Danylo Halytskyi, Yuri Drohobych — secret dialogues with the past, speech through history are marked by grandeur and tranquility, harmonious inner rhythm, consonance of forms and lines person, images of the spirit, service, public services.

The energies of the natural elements and the unity with the firstborn are noticeable in the images of the heroes of the “Forest Song” full of inner movement, color and shadow effects: Mavka, Lukash, Perelesnik, The One who sits in the rock, the One who tears the dams.

Semantic polyphony is inherent in works that embody general cultural meanings in symbolic, metaphorical or allegorical forms: bas-reliefs “Horses and Men”, “The All-Seeing Eye”, “Affirmation”, “Fates”, “Icarus”. Echoes of form-forming experiments of O. Arkhipenko, the understanding of sculpture as the unity of matter and space is caught in the fluid-plastic, generalized and infinitely sensual models of garden and park sculptures of the “Two” series, with their inherent affirmation of the gravity of beauty and life. The emergence of the Cosmos from Chaos, the energy of culturogenesis, the fusion of meanings and values are read in the expressive, plastic-locked or infinitely open images of the Old Testament prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah.

Contemporaries of T. The frieze was engraved with bas-reliefs based on the union of the essential and instantaneous portrait of E. Bezniska, R. Lubkivskoho, B. Voznytskoho, V. Ovsiychuk. With warm irony and appeal to archaic cultures, the images-masks of the artists' friends are marked.

The special feature of the exposition — with sculptures in a polyphonic artistically rich space, sketches, photographs, a cozy wooden table and books on shelves — is the preservation of the atmosphere of creative work, echoes of friendly conversations, thoughts and ideas. A place of reflection and formative experiments, a powerful center of the dissident movement of the sixties of Lviv, visited by prominent figures of Ukrainian culture (L. Levitsky, D. Pavlychkom, I. Drachem, A. Gorska, B. Gorynem, B. Stupka, M. Petrenkom, L. Kostenko), the Museum of Theodosia Bryzh is waiting for a modern art fan, an indifferent interlocutor.
