Parkhomov Art Museum named after. P. F. Lunyova is one of the most interesting village museums in Ukraine and one of the most popular tourist sites in Kharkiv region.
Located in the house- “palazzo”, erected at the end of the 18th century. by Count I. M. Podgoricani.
The museum is an autonomous department of the Kharkiv Art Museum. Over the period of its existence (more than 60 years), its funds have collected about 7 thousand exhibits — these are unique works of painting, graphics, sculptures, decorative and applied arts, valuable materials from archaeology and ethnography.
In 1955, on the initiative of the history teacher, admirer of ancient culture and art Panas Fedorovich Lunev, the Parkhomov Art Museum was founded. His closest assistants were his students, whom he brought together first in the Young Historian circle, and later in the historical and artistic club “Rainbow”. They helped to conduct search work in Parkhomovka and neighboring villages, where paintings, icons, old clothes, embroideries, household items were found.
The school museum was supported by Kharkiv artists, who in the first years of its existence gave it about 50 works of painting and graphics.
Comprehensive assistance for a long time was provided by the Museum of Fine Arts named after him. O.S.Pushkin, State Hermitage, Union of Museums of the Moscow Kremlin, Union of Artists of the USSR. Practical and methodological assistance came from Kharkiv museums — artistic and historical.
For many years, young museum workers maintained friendly relations with outstanding masters of fine arts — S.Konyonkov, V.Favorsky, M.Romadin, E.Vuchetych, B.Nemensky, etc. Friendship was established with the Dresden Art Gallery and the Berlin Bode Museum, where the “rainbows” had a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the masterpieces of world art.
For more than 30 years, the museum has existed on a public basis. By the Resolution of the Board of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR of February 20, 1972. Parkhomov Historical and Art Museum was awarded the title “People's Museum”.
In 1987 the museum became an autonomous department of the Kharkiv Art Museum.
For his museum-making and educational activities, P.F.Lunev was awarded the title “Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine” (1990), awarded the Order “For Merit” of the III degree (1997), recognized as a laureate of the prize named after him. D. Yavornytsky (2004).
In 2008, the museum was renamed the Parkhomov Art Museum and named after its founder — Lunyov P.F.
Today, the collection of the Parkhomov Art Museum in its artistic value is not inferior to many regional galleries. The museum has become a real treasure trove of arts in Kharkiv region and continues to conduct extensive cultural and educational work.
The exposition is located in 12 halls of the museum and has departments: icon painting; domestic and foreign art of the XVIII-XX centuries. (O.O. Ivanov, T. Shevchenko, I. Repin, M. Roerich, A. Arkhipov, K. Malevich, V. Kandinsky, D. Piranezi, P. Picasso, F. Ball et al.); a small section of ancient and oriental art; ethnographic department and a hall with art of the modern period.
The museum has an interesting collection of easel painting and graphics of the XVII-XX centuries. The exposition presents pictorial portraits of the XVIII-XIX centuries, graphic works of outstanding masters I. Aivazovskogo, O. Ivanova, T. Shevchenko, O. Golovina, O. Benoit, W. Serov, works of famous artists I. Shishkina, I. Levitana, Yu. Volkova, K. Kryzhitskogo, V. Vereshchagina, A. Arkhipova, M. Roerich.
Much of the exposition is devoted to the art of the twentieth century. Along with the works of V. Mayakovskogo, K. Malevicha, V. Kandinsky's special place is occupied by works donated to the museum by artists: K. Yuon, Y. Pimenov, M. Saryanom, S. Kononkov, V. Favorskyj, M. Romadin, V. Kasiyanom, B. Nemensky et al.
Diverse and interesting is the department of foreign art, where ancient Egyptian plastic and samples of ancient art, works by masters of India, Japan and China are exhibited. A significant part of the collection consists of works of painting and graphics of German, French, Italian, Dutch artists. Visitors to the museum will meet the works of a talented student of Rembrandt - Ferdinand Ball, the outstanding engraver Giovanni Piranesi, a brilliant artist of the twentieth century. Pablo Picasso.
The museum also has a small ethnographic department, where there are monuments of local history and culture: household items of the XVII-XIX centuries, embroidery, folk painting, ceramics.
Due to problems with the availability of exhibition spaces, only about 1000 works of art can be exhibited at the same time. But the museum has excellent funds, where an interesting collection of foreign and domestic painting of the XVII-XX centuries is kept, part of which is a small selection of icon painting of the XVIII-early. XX century, represented by various schools of icon painting. The graphics department has more than 2 thousand units, where the works of prominent domestic artists of the XVIIII-early are stored. XX century. (Wortman H. A., Gerasimova D. G., Chemesova E. P., Dau D, Egorova O. E., Utkina M. I., Matte W. V. et al.), XX century. (Favorskogo V. A., Kasiyana V. I., Glazunova I. S., Golitsina I. V., Rubana O. Y. et al.). Foreign graphics of the XVII-XX centuries are represented by the works of famous European artists and artists of the East: Dujarden Karel, William Peter, Robert Leopold, Jean Millet, Theodore Rousseau, Frans Mazerel, Leopold Mendes, Arnaud More, Suzuki Kenji and many others.
The collection of decorative arts contains samples of Western European and domestic porcelain of the XVIII-XX centuries, sewing with gold and silver, Ukrainian embroidery, Chinese silk weaving, wood and ivory carvings of masters of the East.
857 units of preservation include a collection of domestic posters of the twentieth century, where printed sheets of the First World War are kept (V. and A. Vasnetsov, A. Arkhipova, S. Vinohradova, O. Apsita, L. Pasternaka, K. Korovina, K. Malevich et al.), 1920 — 1930s. (D. Moora, O. Tyshler, M.Cheremnykh, M.Akimov, etc.). The period of the Great Patriotic War is most clearly represented (I.Toidze, V.Deni, Kukriniksy, V.Koretsky, “Windows of TARS”).
Also in the funds are stored ethnographic and historical materials, photo archives of the XIX — XX centuries.
Such a variety of funds allows the museum to organize exhibitions that reveal the versatility of the works of art kept in the collection.
